SA Museum – New Research + Collection Facility Business Case
Adelaide, South Australia
Year of completion:
Thomson Rossi assisted the SA Museum with the Business Case development of an innovative Research and Collection Facility proposed on a designated site within the Tonsley Innovation Hub. The Business Case explored complex storage systems utilising a specialist museum consultant, which required our interpretation of detailed logistics. Importantly, the nature of the collection also required sensitivities around indigenous customs and custodianship.
Proposed in a high profile location, the proposal carefully explored the buildings place within the urban design parameters of the precinct, both in terms of the buildings form and materiality and in the connecting public spaces that surrounded it to ensure connection and activation at pedestrian level. Intensive liaison with SA Museum representatives allowed us to develop a detailed concept, which then provided the basis for comprehensive cost reports to support budget submissions.
